Is the Orchid Room a good choice for families or couples?
Tabacón is a family-friendly resort and children of all ages are welcome. The Orchid Room is not one of the adults-only categories, which are the Rainforest Room, Volcano View Suite and Private Pool Suite. Guests under 16 must be supervised at the pools and thermal springs at all times. The hot springs are better suited to adults, young adults and teens than to small children. Spa services are not offered to guests 16 or younger. Couples can use the adults-only Shangri-La Gardens, an open-air lounge with its own bar. If a private thermal plunge pool matters most to you, look at the Private Pool Suite instead.
Is there a beach nearby, and how close are the hot springs and restaurants?
La Fortuna is inland, so there is no beach nearby. The closest ocean is about three hours away by car. The draw here is the thermal water: the resort's network of natural hot pools is included with your stay, and hotel guests get exclusive early access from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM before day visitors arrive. On site you will find Los Tucanes (breakfast 6:30–10:30 AM, à la carte dinner 6:00–10:00 PM), the casual Ave Restaurant, the Caña Brava Lobby Bar, Bosque Bar and the Agua Ardiente swim-up bar. Reservations are recommended for dining.
Will I be able to work or stay connected in the room?
Yes. The room has a desk, free wired internet and free WiFi at 250+ Mbps, which suits 3–5 people or up to 10 devices. There is also a 32-inch plasma TV with cable channels, a safe, a coffee/tea maker and a minibar.
What time can I check in, and what can I do if I arrive early?
Check-in begins at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 12:00 PM (noon), with late check-out subject to a charge. If you arrive early, you can store your luggage and use the thermal pools from 10:00 AM while you wait. Bring a valid passport or ID and the credit card used for the booking.
How do I get to Tabacón, and is parking available?
The resort offers free valet parking, and an EV charging station is also mentioned. The nearest airport is La Fortuna/Arenal (FON), about 6 miles away. Juan Santamaría International (SJO) is roughly a 2.5–3.5 hour drive. A roundtrip airport shuttle is available for a surcharge and must be requested at least 72 hours before arrival.
