Frequently Asked Questions

Rainforest Room FAQs

What does the Rainforest King Bed Room at Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa look out on?
The room opens onto courtyard views, and the resort sits inside a 900-acre rainforest reserve at the foot of Arenal Volcano. Expect a quiet, leafy outlook and the sounds of the rainforest rather than a dramatic volcano panorama.
How are the beds arranged and how many guests does the room sleep?
The room has one king bed and sleeps 2 guests. It is a one-bedroom room of 646 sq. ft., so a couple has plenty of space.
What is the bathroom like?
The private bathroom has a shower, designer toiletries, bathrobes, slippers, towels and a hair dryer. The room's amenity list names a shower rather than a bathtub.
What technology and in-room comforts can I expect?
You get a 32-inch plasma TV with cable channels, an iPod dock, a computer, a desk, a phone, a safe, a minibar and a coffee/tea maker. Free WiFi runs at 250+ Mbps, which suits 3–5 people or up to 10 devices, and there is free wired internet too. Air conditioning and blackout drapes help you sleep, and housekeeping and turndown service are provided daily.
What is included with a stay in this room?
Tabacón is not an all-inclusive resort, but room rates include the buffet breakfast at Los Tucanes, a welcome cocktail, free entrance to the natural thermal springs, WiFi, valet parking and access to the adults-only Shangri-La Gardens (18+). Spa treatments, babysitting and airport transfers cost extra and should be booked ahead.
Is this room a good fit for couples or families?
It suits couples best. The room sleeps two and cannot take an extra bed or crib, and Rainforest rooms are reserved for guests 18 and over. Families who want to stay at Tabacón should look at a different room category, since the resort itself welcomes children.
Is there a beach nearby, and how do I get to the hot springs and restaurants?
La Fortuna is inland, so there is no beach. The closest ocean is about three hours' drive away. The thermal springs are on the resort grounds, and hotel guests get exclusive early access from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. On site you will find Los Tucanes, Ave del Paraíso, Caña Brava Lobby Bar, Bosque Bar and the Agua Ardiente swim-up pool bar. Reservations are recommended at the restaurants.
What should I know about check-in, parking and getting to the resort?
Check-in begins at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 12:00 PM (noon). If you arrive early, you can store your luggage and use the thermal pools from 10:00 AM. Valet parking is free. The resort offers a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, which must be requested at least 72 hours before arrival. The drive from San José's international airport to La Fortuna typically takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours.
